Owning one of 109 brand-new, environmentally friendly, flood-resistant, and reasonably priced homes in Hurricane Katrina-devastated Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans seemed like a dream come true, all thanks to actor Brad Pitt. However, this week, 13 years after Hurricane Katrina victims first moved into the homes, Pitt and his foundation reached an agreement on a settlement that will pay $20.5 million to homeowners whose homes depreciated virtually as soon as they purchased them. The residents filed the lawsuit against Pitt and his charity, Make it Right, in 2018, after the now defunct charity allegedly ignored complaints as the houses decayed.
